The Stage is Calling!
Learning to play piano is an exciting journey, but what really sets the experience apart is the opportunity to share music with others. At Alexa’s Piano Lessons, we believe that performances are a key part of a student’s growth—and we make sure they’re as rewarding and fun as possible.
Throughout the year, we host two formal piano recitals and two laid-back performance events, offering students a mix of professional and casual settings to showcase their skills. These performances are more than just opportunities to play—they’re confidence-building milestones that help students grow as musicians and individuals.
Why Performances Matter
Performing in front of an audience may seem intimidating, especially for beginners, but the benefits go far beyond the recital stage. Here are just a few reasons why we make performances a cornerstone of our piano program:
Building Confidence: There’s something magical about stepping up to the piano, playing a piece you’ve worked hard on, and hearing the applause of an audience. It’s a moment of validation that shows students how far they’ve come. Each successful performance builds self-esteem and inspires them to tackle new challenges.
Overcoming Stage Fright: Feeling nervous is natural—it happens to everyone, from beginners to seasoned professionals. By performing regularly, students learn to manage those nerves and even turn them into excitement. Over time, they become more comfortable with public speaking, presentations, and other situations that require poise under pressure.
Celebrating Progress: Every performance is a celebration of hard work. Whether it’s a formal recital or a relaxed jam session, students get the chance to reflect on their growth and feel proud of their accomplishments.
Connecting with Others: Performances create a sense of community. Students bond with peers who share their musical journey, and parents get to see their child’s hard work pay off. It’s a shared experience that brings everyone closer together.
Formal Recitals: A Time to Shine
Our formal recitals are the highlight of the year, giving students a chance to perform in a polished, professional setting. Held twice annually—once in the spring and once in the winter—these events are designed to celebrate each student’s dedication and progress.
Preparation: Leading up to the recital, students work closely with their instructors to perfect a chosen piece. They learn not only how to play the music but also how to present themselves with confidence.
The Atmosphere: Recitals are held in a beautiful venue where students perform on a grand piano. The audience, made up of supportive family and friends, is always warm and encouraging.
Memorable Moments: We encourage students to dress up for the occasion, making the experience feel extra special. The recital ends with a group photo and a chance to mingle with other families.
These formal events teach students the importance of preparation, focus, and delivering their best performance under pressure—all while having fun.
Casual Performances: Low-Key Fun
Not every performance needs to be formal. Our casual events, held twice a year, are perfect for students who want a more laid-back experience. Think of these as musical open mic nights, where the focus is on having fun and sharing music with friends.
What to Expect: These events are held at our studio or a local community space. Students can play their favorite pieces, experiment with improvisation, or even perform duets with friends.
Encouraging Creativity: Without the pressure of a formal recital, students feel free to explore new ideas and take creative risks.
Building Camaraderie: Casual performances are a great way for students to connect with their peers, cheering each other on and celebrating their shared love of music.
These relaxed settings are especially beneficial for beginners who are just starting to find their confidence on stage.

She has a calm, kind demeanor and exhibits excellent leadership skills. Additionally, she offers valuable feedback on sitting posture, hand technique, and fosters my son's interest in music through recitals and open houses. These efforts have greatly contributed to his progress.

How We Prepare Students for Performances
At Alexa’s Piano Lessons, we believe preparation is key to a great performance. Here’s how we support our students every step of the way:
Choosing the Right Piece: We help each student select music that suits their skill level and showcases their strengths. For beginners, this might mean a simple but beautiful melody. For more advanced students, it could be a challenging classical or contemporary piece.
Practice Strategies: In the weeks leading up to a performance, we focus on consistent practice. Students learn to break their piece into sections, work on tricky spots, and gradually build confidence in their playing.
Mock Performances: We host mini-recitals during lessons, where students can practice performing in front of their peers. This helps them get comfortable with the feeling of playing for an audience.
Mindset Coaching: We teach students techniques to manage performance anxiety, like deep breathing and positive visualization. The goal is to help them feel excited rather than scared when they step on stage.
The Joy of Sharing Music
Performing isn’t just about technical skill—it’s about sharing a piece of yourself with others. Music has the power to connect people, evoke emotions, and create memories. When students play for an audience, they experience the joy of giving that gift to others.
Whether it’s a carefully rehearsed recital piece or a casual jam session, every performance is a chance for students to express themselves and grow as musicians.
