Since January 2022 Alexa's Piano Lessons transitioned all private piano lessons into a combination of private and group lessons.... we call it the lab room!
The lab room features all theory based concepts to support the beginning/intermediate piano player's growth and development in music while providing an engaging environment for a full hour of learning.
Piano students come in for a full hour every week (as opposed to the traditional 30 minute private lessons) and get private piano time and lab room time shared with other students.
Students are given 20 minutes of private time and 40 minutes of lab room time. Everything we learn in the private time is reinforced in the lab room for effective as well as engaged learning. Concepts learned from the lab room can be anything including note reading, rhythms, chords, composing, sight reading, etc.
So what are the benefits to the lab room?
More piano time!
Compared to private lessons, our group lessons are the same monthly cost but students get twice the amount of time with their music teacher. A standard private lesson is 30 minute lessons a week while our group piano classes are 60 minutes a week!
Learning with peers
Our music students say they love their group lessons because they get to learn with their piano friends! This includes playing music theory games against each other, piano performance during their classes, or teaching each other concepts. They get to see the same piano students every lesson so they can build connections with them!
Includes private time benefits
With how our music group lessons are laid out, each student gets private time with Ms. Alexa allowing them to learn at their own pace and focus on what they're interested in whether that's popular songs, piano chords, classical music, or jazz piano! No need to worry if your child gets paired with another student who's at a different skill level. Sometimes it's even nice having different leveled students together so they can teach each other!
Competition
We will always have come kind of music challenge or contest for students to compete in every lesson! Your piano teacher will challenge them to work in groups to practice the most days or challenged to beat their peers in a competition. Ask Ms. Alexa what challenges she's currently doing!
Addressing Concerns
As this curriculum is not common parents often have questions or concerns. This post may address any of those problems!
Making the big change to all lessons including lab time has ultimately revolutionized our piano lessons and the experience to students. Many parents have been pleased to see the results of our curriculum on their kids!
