FAQs
Q: Who will we get as our piano teacher for piano lessons?
A: It all depends on your schedule and our schedule! When setting up a trial piano lesson, you can see the availability for all of our piano teachers so you know who you're scheduling with. During/after the trial music lesson we'll go over weekly availability and see which teacher will be available for your schedule!
Q: What is a "lab teacher"?
A: Our lab teachers are trained specifically for our lab rooms for guided practice, assign students music theory related activities, make sure they're following directions, and to help them out with any music related questions during their lesson. Learn more about our lab room here.
Q: Do our piano teachers follow different curriculums?
A: No matter who you are going to every lesson, we are teaching the same music curriculum (still adjusted student by student), games and activities, music theory, and event schedule. Your child will be getting the same treatment with everyone!
Q: Where is Alexa's Piano Lessons located?
A: Our music school is located in Ahwatukee next to Arrivederci. Our address is 4221 E Chandler Blvd Suite 120 Phoenix AZ 85048.
Q: How much do weekly piano lessons cost?
A: 60 minute weekly piano lessons (private piano with lab time) is a flat rate of $140 a month billed on autopay the last day of each month. Our lessons include piano performance opportunities, a dedicated piano faculty, access to our sheet music library, and unlimited music activities!
Q: How does the music lab room work with piano classes?
Our piano lessons (ages 5+) are set up to have three students come every hour. One student in the private room and the other two students in the lab room guided by our dedicated lab room teacher. The students rotate so everyone sees the teacher privately for their lesson length and spends the remaining time in the lab room.
Our music lab room has many different activities with a lesson plan including guided practice, music theory games, worksheets, composition, improvisation, music listening, etc. Students are assigned what to do in the lab room before/after their lesson and are invited to work independently or with their lab partner. The activities are a fun alternative to allowing students to music theory in an effective way. You can set up a trial lesson (which includes a private piano lesson and lab time) to see what your child thinks!
Q: Can I drop off my child during piano classes, or should I stay?
A: For our piano/keyboard lessons, you can do either one depending on what you and your child is comfortable with! But for most students we recommend dropping off to give the students more of a private lesson experience and to allow students to learn and work independently with music as they act different when their parents are around.
Q: How much should my child be practicing the piano?
A: We suggest every beginning piano playing student ages 5-7 to practice at least 10 minutes daily. Beginning piano player students aged 8 and older are to practice at least 15 minutes daily. More experienced music students should practice at least 20 minutes daily. Of course, if the student is not progressing enough in their music lessons with that amount of practice we would suggest more practice than that. It also depends on the student as well so we're not strict on the number of minutes they are practicing.
Q: Do we need to bring our piano books every lesson?
A: Yes! We specifically use the student's books during piano lessons to write customized music notes in there that we are teaching. We use the books to keep track of the songs/music they've finished (with a sticker). Plus there are written music theory pages in there that we need to check in person.
Q: Does a keyboard work for piano lessons?
A: Of course! We recommend to have an 88-key weighted keyboard at home for long-term practice at home allowing the students to play dynamics and to provide the best benefit for every lesson. For short-term we understand feeling weary about purchasing a higher-end keyboard for a music beginner. We offer keyboard rentals at just $20 a month as long as you need it! Your child can also start off with a non-weighted keyboard for the first year before upgrading as we understand the upfront costs of keyboards.
Q: Do you teach adults how to play the piano?
A: We now offer piano lessons for adult students (teaching beginning and intermediate) with different plans depending on your schedule whether that's once a week lessons or to schedule on-the-go! In the future we'll also venture into guitar lessons, violin lessons, flute lessons, and cello lessons. Learn more here about our adult piano lessons!
